In support of the Alan Shearer Foundation
Move a Mile
Eight years ago doctors told me I'd never walk again. I'm walking a mile anyway, 2,775 steps, for a good cause.
Eight years ago I broke my neck and was told I would never walk again.
I wasn't having that.
I've been pushing myself ever since, and now I've decided to set myself a new challenge: walk one mile.
I'm taking part alongside the Alan Shearer Foundation's Move a Mile campaign, which is raising £1 million towards a second hydrotherapy pool at the Alan Shearer Centre.
My challenge is a little different.
I currently average around 50 steps a day, and my average stride is 58cm. That means I need to complete 2,775 steps to cover a mile.
My first thought was to simply donate the £5 and drive a mile in my power wheelchair. But I thought, where's the challenge in that?
So I'm going to walk it instead.
I have no idea how long it's going to take me, but I'll get there.
I've already donated my £5, and I'm now asking friends, family and anyone following my journey to sponsor me and help raise even more for the Alan Shearer Foundation.
Whether it's 50p, £1, £5 or whatever you can afford, every donation will help towards the Foundation's £1 million mission.
